Review: Magic Mike XXL

[Guest Writer: Sara Winchester]

It’s been three years since Magic Mike crawled across a movie theater screen and into your panties. Now after a long, hard wait the next chapter for the Kings of Tampa has come back to those screens today, in Magic Mike XXL.

When the first Magic Mike came out I admit that I was intrigued. Male strippers? Channing Tatum dancing in a g-string? Matthew McWhat’sHisFace in a tiny banana hammock? I was sold before the first trailer even hit.

What I thought I was going to see was a light hearted movie about strippers. For me, the original MM suffered from an identity crisis; I was never sure if it wanted to be a dark and artsy drama or if it was supposed to be the Showgirls for, well, girls. Luckily, Magic Mike XXL has definitely surpassed my admitedly low expectations for a sequel.

Comic Issues #221 – Free Comic Book Day!

Welcome back, everyone! This past Saturday was Free Comic Book Day and to celebrate we took the show on the road down to The Villainous Lair to interview anyone we could pin down into a corner and bother with questions. Lucky for us we got to talk to some of the coolest geeks and nerds in the world including Flash Gordon, Doctor Strange and Sara Winchester herself! Together we geeked out over the recent release of Avengers Age of Ultron, Marvel’s upcoming Secret Wars, a surprising amount of iZombie, and even a little of DC’s Convergence.

While at The Lair we even got to talk to Matt Dunford of Little Fish Studios here in San Diego and John Barber from IDW’s Transformers (and more), stay tuned for our John Barber interview later this week. It was absolutely an amazing time getting FREE comics and talking with our fellow “neeks.”  Listen in and hear the good times!

WonderCon 2015 – Batman v Robin Interviews

This week DC Entertainment released the latest in their line of straight-to-home-video animated movies mostly based on storylines from the comics. Not letting the dust settle on their last release, January’s Throne of Atlanis, they bring us Batman v Robin, starring returning voice actors Jason O’Mara, Stuart Allan, and Sean Maher along with Jeremy Sisto as the villain, Talon. While at WonderCon this year our favorite Villainous Correspondents Sara Winchester and Skratch Okami spoke with some of the cast and crew about coming back to Gotham City with one of Batman’s greatest stories in recent time and what it was like putting on the tights again… metaphorically that is… maybe.

Review: 50 Shades of Grey

Guest Writer: Sara Winchester

There have been few book series that have risen to a worldwide phenomenon since the Twilight series, so it’s appropriate that its successor also started its life trying to be part of the Twilight obsession.

50 Shades of Grey, a nationwide bestseller, started its life as a Twilight fan-fiction. If you are familiar with that universe it has some pretty easy to spot Twilight-esque tropes: shy, plain, ordinary girl Anna who becomes the subject of desire and obsession for the darkly intense Christian Grey. What begins as a seemingly thrilling game of girl-meets-rich-mysterious-bachelor-in-odd-twist-of-fate turns rather dark early on in the film.rs_634x1005-141114095132-10644711_665591963557478_6990185292071945908_n

Comic Issues #203 – The Legend of AXIS

As the year comes to an end, so does Marvel’s AXIS event.  The bad guys are good again and the good guys have gone back to being bad with almost everyone back to normal with little to no consequences, but that’s how it is these days with the all too frequent major comic events.  Too often the hype doesn’t match the pay off and readers get caught up in an never ending loop of excitement to disappointment and back to excitement again.  Will the next event finally be the story to to make up for so many duds?

This week while Elizabeth is away for the holiday with family, the one and only Sara Winchester from the Villainous Lair has come to keep the female quota equal.  With the air time and opportunity Anthony gets to learn all about The Legend of Korra and why fans love it so much.
