Last March, artist Len Peralta set out to interview a different well-known or influential geek each week for a year and create an online “trading card” for each geek. 52 geeks later, ThinkGeek took Peralta’s idea to the next level by making actual physical trading cards out of them.
The first set of 8 cards became available yesterday on ThinkGeek.com for $9.99. It features the likenesses of and facts about musician Jonathan Coultron, cartoon TV executive Fred Seibert, tech hostess Veronica Belmont, Sci-Fi author John Scalzi, the comedians of RiffTrax (Bill Corbett, Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy), senior editor at Lucas Online Bonnie Burton, nerdcore rapper MC Frontalot and web Moriarty Ken Plume. The remaining cards will be released in additional sets throughout the year until all 52 cards are out.
Additionally, to coincide with the launch of the trading cards, Len Peralta and ThinkGeek have begun a charity auction on eBay to benefit Child’s Play and EFF. Many of the geeks interviewed as part of the Geek A Week project have contributed autographed memorabilia to be auctioned off. More information about the auction can be found on ThinkGeek’s blog.
