Pixelated Geek at the Final Fantasy XIII launch in London

“That’s commitment!” cheered on presenter Alex Zane as he quizzed Peter Allen of Manchester, who had come in by train the night before. Peter told us that he and his friend had been queueing in front of HMV for eighteen hours in order to be first in line. That is commitment. Interestingly enough, just a bit more than eighteen hours ago, France was having its own Final Fantasy XIII release event.

Top Five Things to do on Spring Break

Top Five Things to do on Spring Break

Spring Break is upon us here in North Carolina. A time for millions of college students to flood the beach of their choice and make the bad decisions of a life time! But for those of us who don’t aspire to be on the newest “Girls Gone Wild”, or in the background of a “Cops” episode we have to find other things to do with our time. So in honor of those that have eclectic, who am I kidding geeky taste, here are my top five thing to do during spring break.

SPRING BREAK 89!!

5) Go Larping (Live.Action.Role.Playing)

Just hanging out

Have you ever been sitting around the house watching Lord of the Rings and thought to yourself, “Hey, I could grow a beard like Gimli”, but you never had the guts to try it. Well these guys don’t stop there. They go big or go home. There is something about running through the woods with foam weapons that never gets boring. It is like a Nerf War for grown ups. But better. There are girls there pretending to be Elves. Just don’t try and mess with these guys, they are super hardcore.

Retro Gaming Reviews: Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- (2007)

Retro Gaming Reviews: Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- (2007)

Meet the Protagonist: Zack Fair

Look, I already know what you’re going to have to say, so you don’t have to say it. Crisis Core IS NOT a retro game. In fact, the game was released in 2007 in Japan and 2008 here in the US, so it isn’t even borderline retro. However, following my FFVII review, my plan was to take a crack at possibly the most polarizing of Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy VIII. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy VII left me wanting more, possibly due to the game being so overhyped and so I decided to break out my copy of Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, which I had put on hold after losing my data when my old PSP was stolen. And, finally having Final Fantasy VII under my belt, I felt it was finally time to go through it once more and finish what I started. So, consider this a supplement to my Final Fantasy VII review as I delve further into the mythology of the world of Final Fantasy VII.

Retro Gaming Reviews – Final Fantasy VII (1997)

Retro Gaming Reviews – Final Fantasy VII (1997)

Cloud and his crew arrive at the Gold Saucer.

Given that I’m a big fan of plot heavy video games, it probably comes as no surprise that I’m a fan of the Final Fantasy series. After all, RPGs in general tend to be all about the story and the Final Fantasy series, along with The Legend of Zelda, is probably one of the most widely known RPG series, thanks in part to Squaresoft’s (now Square Enix) Final Fantasy VII for the Sony PlayStation. In fact, prior to Final Fantasy VII, the series had not yet hit the mainstream scene on an international scale. While definitely a popular series in Japan, North America had only seen a few glimpses of the series in the form of Final Fantasy I, IV, and VI (II, III, and V were not released outside of Japan) and Europe hadn’t even seen a Final Fantasy release until Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy I & II Now Available in the App Store

Final Fantasy I & II Now Available in the App Store

*Cue Final Fantasy Victory Theme*

That’s right, folks. The first two Final Fantasy games are now available for the iPhone (and iPod touch as well). Sure, we’ve had remakes of the games for the Game Boy Advance and PlayStation Portable, but iPhone gamers out there that didn’t bother with either system can now bask in glory that is Final Fantasy. Priced at $9 piece, the games come with the special dungeons that have been included since the GBA rereleases. So for all of you that have always wanted to see what all the rage is about or just want to go back and experience the games all over again, what are you waiting for?

Top Five Games to look for in 2010

Top Five Games to look for in 2010

The first quarter for this year might have been this best one ever. Huge triple A titles like Bayonetta, Mag, and Mass Effect 2 have already dropped. So with all the commotion at the start of the year it might feel like the rest of the year is going to be a bigger let down than Colonial Williamsburg (just kidding I love that place. Mock Trials people). So here are my top five games to get way to excited about this year. (honorable mentions go out to The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo 5, and Starcraft 2…..yea I know by the time the last two ever come out we will probably be riding around in those sweet recliners from Wall-E but a boy can dream right)

This 8-Bit Final Fantasy tattoo isn’t photoshopped

Final Fantasy Tattoo

A friend of mine recently got a tattoo on his chest. (1 above each breast to be exact.)  I didn’t believe him when he said he would get a Final Fantasy tattoo when he first told me. After it healed, he showed me the results and I was really impressed by them.  And by “them” i mean tattoos, you perv. I know staring at my friend’s chest is kinda awkward, but it’s better than geeky tramp stamps.
