Review: Star Wars Aftermath – Life Debt

The journey to The Force Awakens continues in the second book of Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath trilogy.

The scrappy band of misfits, bounty hunters, and former soldiers introduced in the first book has been successfully (for the most part) tracking down high-ranking Imperial officers and dragging them back to the New Republic.

Far from being wiped out, the remnants of the Empire are stubbornly holding on to the planets they control and gathering their forces for another attack against the New Republic. But while some Imperial officers truly believe that having the Empire in charge would be better for the galaxy (certainly better than the chaos that’s going to result from the New Republic’s idealistic half-measures), others are working behind the scenes to return to the days of secret police, puppet governments, and an Emperor like Palpatine. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Spoiler Free Review)

On May 25, 1977 the realm of film, science fiction and the real world itself changed: the first Star Wars film was unleashed on an unsuspecting public, and nothing has even been the same since. It changed the entire medium for the better and became the film anthem for entire generation. On May 19th, 1999 filmmakers took us back to the universe of Star Wars: also changing the world as we know it, just not in the way any fan could ever imagine. Hate them or love them, the prequels are an endless conversation for the old and new generations.

The third times the charm; as of December 18, 2015 I can safely say the world has changed yet again. As the wind blows back toward something amazing, an era of greatness begins once more for fans from any generation.

Review: Heir To The Empire

“You’re not the last of the old Jedi, Luke, you’re the first of the new.”

After twenty-four years of Star Wars books, it’s hard to put into words just how excited fans were when the first Star Wars novel post-Return of the Jedi was announced. Sure we’d had comic books and TV shows set in the same universe. But this was the first story – officially sanctioned by George Lucas himself – that continued the adventures of all our favorite characters, finally answering the question we’d been asking in the eight years since the last film ended: “And THEN what happened!?”

Timothy Zahn’s Heir To The Empire was more than a spin-off. This was a sequel.
