Movie Issues: Jurassic World

Almost twenty-two years ago to the day director Steven Spielberg unleashed one of the greatest movies ever made, Jurassic Park. Not only did it change the way filmmaking was done, but also showed the world the first real usage and capability of fully working CGI. As far as the world was concerned, Spielberg had really cloned dinosaurs and we were watching the best documentary ever made. Many years later, and several attempts to revisit the franchise, we finally are able to return to Jurassic Park with Jurassic World. And what could have been a total disaster is more like a fun ‘welcome home’ by an old friend that you’ve missed.

Blizzard Theme Park Under Construction

Blizzard Theme Park Under Construction

Earlier this month, French gaming website GameBlog.fr reported that a Blizzard theme park would be built in Wunjin district, China. Called Joyland, the park was supposedly themed around Blizzard’s two most popular games: World of Warcraft and StarCraft. But, thinking it was too good to be true, many discounted this report as nothing more than a rumor.

Until now. A Chinese news report containing photos of Joyland’s construction has recently surfaced.

Legoland California to Open New Section for Star Wars

*Cue Star Wars theme song*

Lego master builders are hard at work getting ready for opening of a new section inside Legoland California.  The master builders are making many different models of Star Wars ships, characters, and buildings from all six episodes of the franchise.  The new section is scheduled to open on March 31 of this year.  Check out the three photos of Lego master builders hard at work past the break, as well as a press release.

Expect some videos and many pictures of me geeking out when I go there personally on opening day. Anyone want to come with?

If they remade “It’s A Wonderful Life,” they could make it about Steven Spielberg being shown what American cinema would be like if he had never lived, and Clarence would show him this movie. Director Joe Johnston is not entirely to blame. He has enormous shoes to fill, the shoes of a man who, as even as his detractors agree, has a gift for presentation. Johnston previously helmed Jumanji and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, which are in their ways, very similar to JP3: lots of crashing, noisy, exciting sequences, with enough of a story to keep you interested but not necessarily to transport you to another world.
