Movie Issues: Thor: The Dark World

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is back again, and this time they’re bringing Thor into his second solo adventure: Thor: The Dark World, directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, The Sopranos) and staring Chris Hemsworth as the titular hero, along with his scheming demigod half-brother Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. Bringing back the entire cast from part one, they all join Thor in this new tale as he tries the stop the Dark Elves from destroying the universe. All this combines into one hell of a great movie that is thrilling, funny, action-packed, and one of the most entertaining movies of the year.

Thor 2 is so close that we can almost smell Loki’s luxurious hair.  It’s making the air electric and Marvel is making sure it stays that way with Thor: God of Thunder #14, by maybe giving fans a taste of what’s to come.  In both God of Thunder #14 and Thor 2 the Asgardian Avenger will face off against Malekith the Accursed and teaming up with unlikely allies.  In GoT Malekith is out to kill all the Dark Elves of the Nine Realms with little in his way to stop him, other than The Mighty Thor.

Written by Marvel’s superstar Jason Aaron (Wolverine & The X-Men) with eye grabbing art by Ron Garney (Fantastic Four) this will be a must get book for those eagerly awaiting Thor The Dark World.  In this 4 page preview alone we see Thor tearing through the battle field on a CR 6 Dire Goat, surly dwarves in a beautifully laid out cavern for smelting, and… The Warriors Three… Volstagg!!

Movie Issues: Dual Review “Cabin in the Woods”

Leland and Spooky saw another movie, so you know what that means: another Dual Review! We take the best two nerds can offer and give it to you for the price of a single admission. This week, the boys were blessed by fate with the chance to see Cabin in the Woods.  Filmed in 2009, but held back by studios who wanted it converted to 3D (despite the writers’ strong objections), this horror/sci-fi romp is Thor’s Chris Hemsworth’s first staring role; supported by a handful of the Whedon-verse’s familiar faces.

Find out why Cabin in the Woods gets the Movie Issues stamp of approval as a recommended must-see.

Comic Issues Presents: Thor – Review

Recently, I had the pleasure of seeing an advanced screening of the Marvel Comics latest hero-turned Hollywood movie, Thor. In following the successful Iron Man franchise, and the soon to be released Captain America and Avengers movie, Marvel seems to be getting their continuity together for a very good set of films, which is a nice change of pace being that Marvel hasn’t been able to do the same for their latest books to save their lives. Perhaps Marvel needs to brake down and have a “Crisis.” That however, is not what this is about–this is about The Mighty Thor. Thankfully, here Marvel has another strong film on their hands. “Thor” is everything you’ve come to expect from a Marvel movie; it’s fun, action-packed, epic and widely accessible to comic fans and non-comic fans alike. As with all Marvel films to date, you should stay to the very end. Yes, suffer though the horrible Foo Fighters song–trust me, it’s worth it!
