Binary System Podcast #95: WTNV #113 “Niecelet” and many tangents

It’s a nice rambly podcast this week, first with a Night Vale recap where Cecil talks about eclipses you can’t see from this planet and then gets stuck in his own recording booth. And then Elizabeth drags the podcast off on not one but TWO tangents, once about mythical two-headed snakes and another about alien tourists on Earth. And finally a segue into the Defenders, John Barrowman’s awesome DragonCon cosplay, sand castles, Lady Killer, Motor Girl, conventions, Cabin in the Woods, and “My Dad Wrote a Porno.

Binary System Podcast #94: Eclipse recap and WTNV #112 “Citizen Spotlight”

First off this week is a recap of The Great American Eclipse because SCIENCE. Then we’re looking at Night Vale’s first Citizen Spotlight, featuring a character who is entirely fictional. More so than usual we mean.

After that we look at the first episode of Marvel’s Defenders and talk about what we like (“WRONG NUMBER”) and what we hate (shut UP, Danny!)

Binary System Podcast #92: WTNV #111 – Summer 2017, Night Vale, USA

This week’s episode of Night Vale was less of an episode and more of a little present for everybody who’s been a fan of the show since the beginning. We got the Dog Park, Dana Cardinal, Khoshekh, the lights above the Arby’s, Carlos’ perfect hair, and angels. And lightbulbs. (sniff) (We’re not crying you’re crying.)

After that there was just time enough to talk Twin Peaks, Agatha Heterodyne Girl Genius, Dylan Marron’s new podcast, and the final issue of Transformers Till All Are One.

Binary System Podcast #89 – Night Vale Bonus tracks, and San Diego Comic-Con!

This week Welcome to Night Vale demonstrated once again that they don’t understand the meaning of the word “hiatus” because they gave us both an excerpt from the upcoming Night Vale book It Devours, AND a teaser for the new “Conversations With People Who Hate Me” podcast. This brings up one of the few times that the twins come down on opposite sides of an issue, because Kathryn likes to read the comment threads of news articles to find the rare moments of intelligent discussion and well-worded viewpoints, and Elizabeth doesn’t because she thinks they’re cesspits of humanity.

After that they nerd out about Saga for a bit (the cover to issue 44 is all kinds of neat) and then spell out their plans for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con! They’ll both be there, along with Official Binary System Photographer Captain Slack (otherwise known as Kathryn’s husband Nathan) to do some interviews, take a pile of photos, and report back on Nerd Mecca. Keep an eye out here and on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram!

Binary System Podcast #79 – WTNV Episode 106 “Filings”

In Night Vale it’s illegal to acknowledge the existence of angels, so they’re out to change that, and you know what that means: PAPERWORK. Also minor riots, dragons, and rifts in the space-time continuum. It IS Night Vale we’re talking about.

After the twins recap the episode they also get into Mystery Science Theater 3000: the Return (and how delightfully creepy Felicia Day can be), the new Beauty and the Beast movie (and how it’s okay if you make a movie that’s only for Disney Fans because that’s a hell of an army to contend with), the new Iron Fist (about which we’ll say very little) and the Hugo Award nominations (about some of which we’ll say nothing at all…)

Binary System Podcast #78 – Season Premiere of Alice Isn’t Dead, Season Finale of The Walking Dead

After eight months it’s finally back: this week brought the season premiere of Alice Isn’t Dead, and we’ve got the recap but what we REALLY WANT TO TALK ABOUT is the season finale of The Walking Dead. Because priorities. So listen in for a quick recap of Keisha’s adventure’s in the desert and then a spoileriffic recap of Sasha’s adventures in a pine box.

Binary System Podcast #77 – WTNV episode 105 “What Happened at the Smithwick House”

This week’s Welcome To Night Vale episode offers up a short story. It’s a tale about a family, and a house, and a hole in the nursery wall. Cecil refuses to learn anything from the story, and we’re not entirely sure if there’s anything to learn from it. But it’s deliciously creepy, and the music by Disparition adds just the right touch.

But it’s not just a WTNV recap this week, oh no. WonderCon was last weekend, and Elizabeth’s got the scoop and the pretty pretty pictures of all the talented cosplayers. She also went to see a live show, nothing too big, she just got to see and get re-tweeted by Neil frikking Gaiman, and he’s exactly as awesome to hear as he is to watch.

Binary System Podcast #75 – WTNV episode 104 “The Hierarchy of Angels”

This week the twins recap the latest episode of Night Vale and talk about how angels can’t have building permits and dragons can’t practice law. (Apparently you can’t just tell somebody that the City said it was okay for you to build a roller coaster. Even if you spell all the words right.)

After that Kathryn gave us a breakdown of NC Comicon: Oak City, and Elizabeth gave us her picks for Amazon’s “Pilot Season.”

Binary System Podcast #73 – WTNV #103 “Ash Beach”

Anyone looking to take an early spring vacation? Why not take a trip to Night Vale’s newest attraction: Ash Beach. The town’s landlocked, so there’s no water, and the sand’s been replaced with ash from thousands of municipally burned books, so you’ll need a respirator. Other than that, it’s blisteringly hot, and hazy figures are infecting beachgoers with memories of things that never happened. It’s not a typical vacation, but you could do worse (although not much.)

When they’re not recapping the episode or watching Elizabeth’s cat lose her frikkin’ mind, the twins talk about the upcoming Convention season that kicks off with Oak City Comic Con in Raleigh. And for all you Transformers fans, Kathryn accepts the challenge to explain the difference between “Forged” and “Constructed Cold” in five minutes or less.
