Sony Wins Right to Obtain IP Addresses in GeoHot Case

In a stunning court decision, Sony has been awarded the right to obtain all IP addresses of any individual who visited GeoHot’s website in the past 26 months.  This subpoena is in reference to the ongoing legal battle between the electronic entertainment giant and George Hotz, the hacking whiz who taught thousands upon thousands how to jailbreak the iPhone as well as the PS3.  According to the report from WIRED.com, Sony now has full legal parameters to obtain and scrutinize information about any person who has visited the website (and YouTube channel) in question since January 2009.

Furthermore, the court decision delineates how Sony attorneys can search the identification information of anyone who has in his or her possession a secret video (specifically, “Jailbroken PS3 3.55 with Homebrew”). Much of the internet community is crying “Big Brother” in this shocking court case.  Check out the main source here or simply just google “GeoHot” and decide for yourself.
