Mon Frere has a new show tonight! “Something To Say” to premiere at The Idiot Box!

To any and all in the Triad or surrounding areas, please come to The Idiot Box Comedy Club in downtown Greensboro, NC at 8 PM!  We fellas and lady of Mon Frere are premiering our newest sketch show, “Something To Say.”  It’s filled with revolution, absurdity, and some of the best humor and references that 1993 had to offer.  Ticket prices are $6 for everyone, and doors open at 7:30 PM.  Also, help us welcome our newest member Tom McCoy, who has already expertly performed in Huffle Puffed!  See you all tonight at The Idiot Box!

Warning: Strobe effects are used, and parents should be advised that some content is not suitable for children.  In fact, most content is not suitable for children.  Leave them at home with a babysitter or that crazy guy on the corner who keeps trying to hock apples that he “stole” from a nearby “tree.”  You can trust him.

Legacy of the Drow’s Creator: Interview with RA Salvatore

Last week, I had the immense pleasure and honor to interview one of fantasy literature’s most prolific figures.  RA Salvatore — famous for the Drizzt series — is running from coast to coast for the next few weeks to promote his newest book Neverwinter, the second title in the similarly titled trilogy.  Before his tour, Salvatore graciously took an hour out of his busy schedule to talk with me about his new book, his past books, and his process as an author.

$25 micro-PC Possibly Heading Our Way

$25 micro-PC Possibly Heading Our Way

Computers really are just getting smaller and smaller.  I remember a time when my 9GB Dell tower was all the rage, drawing envious stares form my freshman hall dorm-mates.  From there, the hard drives just kept holding more data with less physical space consumed.  Then came the USB flash drive that was the size of my first PC.  And now, I’m set to build a 1TB tower over the next few months.  And the rig is bigger only because I want it to be.

The picture above is a PC the size of a flash drive (note the 20p piece for size comparison).  Currently in alpha, the PC — upon release — is only going to cost $25.  On geek.com, British game developer David Braben talked about his latest innovation, the Raspberry Pi, designed primarily to give schoolchildren jump-starts on programming.  Check out the full article here, with thanks to the good people of reddit.

Mon Frere presents “Hufflepuffed!”

This evening, the fellas and lady of Mon Frere proudly present our Harry Potter-themed sketch comedy show, “Hufflepuffed!”  In this overarching narrative, we examine the world of Harry Potter from some “alternative” perspectives.  Even The Boy Who Lived himself explains the story as it would be if a certain creator of “Law and Order” (let us just call him “The Dick Wolf”) had some stew in the pot.  Mix in some confused and embittered perspectives from Helga Hufflepuff’s disenfranchised house, and you have “Hufflepuffed!”  We’ll post some videos a while after the show; until then enjoy our poster below!

Mon Frere’s Next 48 Hours

Loyal sketch comedy fans: Mon Frere is participating in Greensboro’s 48 Hour Film Festival this weekend!  Check out all the details of the event here.  For the event, we drew the genre of Mockumentary and have the required prop of crayons (out of the box); the required character of Don Hastert, plumber; and the required line of dialogue, “Where did you go?”  All of these elements must be used in our film, which we will start working on in the next thirty minutes or so.  The final product (edited and rendered) is due Sunday evening at 7:30 pm EST sharp.  Wish us all luck and a lot of energy.

The Pixelated Geek Staff Remembers our Favorite Blue Hedgehog!

We’re so excited, we could curl up into a little ball and spin like a razor through the green hills and bucolic countryside.  Or maybe we’ll take a speedy trip through a carnivalesque Vegas.  Or maybe we’ll get so frenzied we’ll attack an evil, ginger scientist bent on destroying the world with his egg ship.  We have issues.  However, in honor of Sonic’s 20th birthday, a few of us staff members at Pixelated Geek took a few moments to recall our fondest and favorite memories regarding SEGA’s tent-pole mascot.  He fought valiantly in the early console wars and, though he succumbed to the might of two Italian plumbers, Sonic has never given up the fight for our adoration.  Now that he’s no longer a teenager (and can almost drink legally), we’ll sneak him a drop or two of our alcoholic and nectarine praise.  We heart you big, buddy.  Here’s our scrapbook!
